Meta Shares Surge as US Court Upholds TikTok Ban

Meta's AI chatbot nears 600 million monthly users, driven by the launch of Llama 3.3, a cost-efficient AI model. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announces future plans for Llama 4.

Meta Platforms Inc. (META) is making significant strides in the artificial intelligence space, as its AI assistant nears 600 million monthly active users. This milestone comes just 14 months after the launch of the chatbot, as announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The announcement was made on the Meta-owned Threads platform, highlighting the rapid growth and adoption of Meta's AI technologies.

The AI assistant, known as Meta.ai, was introduced during Meta's annual Connect conference in September 2023. It has since become a key component of Meta's strategy to integrate AI across its platforms, including Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram. The chatbot is designed to generate a wide range of responses and media based on user prompts, similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT.

In conjunction with this user milestone, Meta has launched Llama 3.3, a new AI text model. This 70-billion-parameter model is designed to deliver high performance in text-based applications while being more cost-efficient than its predecessor, Llama 3.1. According to Meta, Llama 3.3 matches the performance of the larger model but at a fraction of the cost, making it an attractive option for developers and businesses.

Zuckerberg also hinted at the upcoming release of Llama 4, expected early next year. This new model is being trained on a cluster of over 100,000 H100s, promising further advancements in AI capabilities.

Meta's stock has responded positively to these developments, reaching a record high for the fourth consecutive trading day. The stock's performance is also buoyed by a federal court decision that could potentially ban TikTok, a major competitor, if its parent company ByteDance does not divest the platform.

Overall, Meta's aggressive push into AI is paying off, as evidenced by the growing user base and the successful launch of Llama 3.3. The company's commitment to making advanced AI tools accessible and efficient is setting a new standard in the industry.
